Craigslist Files #50: Activity Coroner
awww... he thinks he's fascist!
As with many things on the Internet, I don't object to the principles on which craigslist is based, merely the abhorrent things that tend to spring up in the site's otherwise fertile soil. This is why I don't have any fundamental problem with, say, the Groups or Activities pages. If anything, those sections are what craigslist is supposed to be about. Like the bulletin board of an infinite hostel populated by people who are somehow scarier and more disgusting than the folks one usually finds in an actual hostel, craigslist is a good source of community information that otherwise would have gone unnoticed. All in all, the Activities and Groups pages have a decent crap-to-worthwhile ratio, an acceptable number of posts that are neither marketing ploys nor deluded attempts to drag others into one's ugliness. But you didn't come to this blog to read about some guy's respectable community service project, you came here for a reminder of what's wrong with the world. To that end...
2012 Ascension/Discussion Group
Are you excited for our imminent paradigm shift? Are you knowledgeable, aware, or just curious about the 5th Dimension, benevolent ETs, ascension, indigos, crystal cities, the inner earth, or any number of shift related topics? I'm a younger indigo (25) who has been downtrodden by this dense 3D reality we've chosen to participate in, and would like to meet some people who are aware of the same vein of thought that I am to help boost our collective vibration. Thinking about a coffee shop meet-up once a week, or something of the like.
By making my coin researching the most awful, stupid or just plain ridiculous elements of the Internet, I've stepped in my fair share of crazy thinking. I've long abandoned the idea that I can somehow catalog every single conspiracy theory, pseudo-science or absurd, supernatural panic. I've also come to realize that most deep-end idiots just pile wrong idea after wrong idea onto some initial misconception. There's nothing in the above poster's life experience that made him or her believe in, say, crystal cities (whatever that is). This person just has the kind of Silly Puddy mind required to accept a certain strand of crazy. 2012, alien visitors, magical math, it's all just stuff that tickled the crossed wires in the poster's brain. As always, I'm torn between a desire for people to stop believing in these things and a desire to see an entire group of them in public for my own amusement.
Join the Young Republicans
Check out what members are saying about (location) Young Republicans:
"Because there are more people who care about their livelihoods and individual liberty and national security than you think. It's in our interest to mobilize when freedom is being challenged.
I've had enough of these (location) Democrats running things like we're in the Middle Ages and it's their birthright." - Joshua Normand
"This is a great group of people who share common values and know how to have a lot of fun!" - jennifer
"Because conservatives need to stick together :)" - Dorian
"To learn something new." - Theres Fillmore
"Meeting and working with like-minded young people keeps me sane!" - keli
These quotes are excerpted from a larger post about the annual Young Republicans Christmas party. I've always loved the Young Republicans, not just because they're a cadre of self-deceiving junior Randians with tremendously myopic Napoleon complexes, but because like little kids on some dire home video produced by Bill Cosby, they say the darndest things. I have no idea what Joshua Normand means by "like we're in the Middle Ages and it's their birthright", only that I can roughly translate it as "I don't think before I speak and I'm not aware that most of my heroes are unrepentant bigots".

Just looking for anyone to occationaly play with
Alright, I'm just picking on this guy because I don't make fun of World of Warcraft nearly as much as I'd like to and the above poster makes it too easy to pass up. I guess it's nice that the guy's trying to socialize and maybe he's just some teenager, but that doesn't excuse his 16th century peasant's take on the English language or the suggestion that he spends every free moment in his life playing a video game. I often wonder what people of the future will think of our society when they dig through our electronic records and find a seemingly endless pile of references to the Lightbringer server and the atrocities of Level 80 jerks griefing the n00bs.
