Not long after the ridiculous comedy of the craigslist Erotic/Adult Services fiasco ended with the American sites forcing prostitutes into various hidey-holes throughout the List and Jim Buckmaster publicly pretending that his company's history of profiting from human trafficking was a grand statement about social reform, I strongly suggested that the Beauty Services page is where all the prostitutes would go once Therapeutic Services got raided. Today, the bazaar of pay-strange that is Therapeutic is still going strong, though Beauty has a few seeds of the oldest profession just biding their time until a horde of Attorneys General descends upon Therapeutic in an election year fury. Wandering through Beauty, I've learned that it hosts the occasional prostitute or brothel not because it's just a hop, skip and a jump away from sexual services like so many sketchy massage parlors are. No, Beauty has taken a much stranger path to being ruined.

I can only conclude that Beauty is simply not policed at all, not by the mods at craigslist and not by the site's users. Prostitutes and brothels occasionally show up in Beauty not because it's the next logical step after Therapeutic but because nobody, not even the people who browse the page, give a damn. People can post anything they want to in Beauty and expect to see it linger. As a result, it's slowly transforming into a grab bag of questionable offers. When the craigslist criminals catch wind of this, things will get ugly. For now it's like watching a beautiful girl dabble with cocaine, not knowing she's about to lose herself to a degrading addiction. Take care of yourself, Beauty. You're better than this poison you think is no big deal.
