The most important question to answer when approaching a conspiracy theory is whether it's of the crazy variety or the stupid variety.
See, a slim majority of paranoid schizophrenics can be classified as (and this is my vague term) "relatively intelligent". This means that, relative to their situation in life, schizophrenics tend to be on the smart end of the spectrum. These are individuals who, if they are employed at all, tend to have jobs that are below their capabilities. In the case of arguably sane but unarguably stupid people, they pop up in every walk of life. The guy running the quality control department at your office may just be a classic idiot, trained to do his vocational tasks with reasonable competence but otherwise incapable of forming a rational thought. The end result of either a broken or a stunted mental process is largely the same. The only difference, as far as I can tell, is that the ramblings of crazy people tend to be a bit more original than those of stupid people.
Take Gorilla199, a prolific youtube vlogger and sole contributor to Nibirupedia.com. At first glance he appears to be insane, dedicating huge amounts of time to exposing a world-wide conspiracy involving a laundry list of imaginary forces. His favorite topic is the pending invasion of the Nephilim, evil abominations resulting from the mating of fallen angels and human beings. If Gorilla199 had come up with that concept on his own, he'd be a classic schizo. Alas, this is just another case of fringe Christians sucking at Hebrew. Some Old Testament texts use the word to refer to large, warlike nations, but this somehow transformed into a non-canonical Christian myth about rebellious angels getting it on with wicked humans and producing bestial offspring. Gorilla199 is convinced that the Nephilim, whom he often calls Nibiru, will rise up from underground and from the seas to wage war with the faithful.
As if that weren't enough, G-Man has it out for those evil Freemasons. He has some delightfully stupid videos, like my personal favorite "Einstein Was An Idiot". In a grand demonstration of Internet Ouroboros, Gorilla199 actually plays a separate youtube video during his own youtube video, hoping to prove that the mind-bending theoretical physics of Albert Einstein and his ilk are plainly incorrect. He responds to the claim that, in a non-Newtonian theoretical system, the fastest way between two points may not always be a straight line with the following quip: "I'll tell you what, next time you're gonna go somewhere, go there the long way 'round and tell me if you got there quicker." Check and mate, Gorilla199. You sure showed those wicked Freemasons with respected positions at major universities and a world full of peer reviewers who's boss.
Ultimately, Gorilla199 reveals himself to be just plain stupid not only through his complete lack of originality and his inability to grasp actual science, but also through his speech patterns. If you're a middle-aged man who sounds like a ten-year-old arguing on the playground about which super hero would win in a hypothetical fight, you're not crazy, you're just a dumbass. The curious thing about Gorilla199 is that I think he genuinely wants to be insane. The subtitle of Nibirupedia is "Your Reality is All in Your Mind". This begs us to claim that Gorilla199's reality is nothing but a product of his own imagination, but we know that's just not true. His reality is one in which his loneliness can be filled by slapping together a bunch of stale conspiracy theories and telling people to believe in Jesus. That's not crazy, it's just really bad marketing.
Amount of Time Likely to be Wasted: I'm giving Gorilla199's entire oeuvre a solid hour of wasted time. You'll probably not watch all of his videos, but there's enough that's worth a laugh to drop sixty minutes incrementally.
Likelihood to Result in Arrest in Real Life: Not likely at all. Gorilla199 is the kind of lazy, barely enthusiastic idiot who posts on youtube as an alternative to actually being a productive member of society. Since he's stupid and not crazy, he's just not likely to do any direct harm to society.
MCDR: Because it's entertaining and because it would piss Gorilla199 off something fierce, go watch some of Thunderf00t's videos. He's a rare bastion of intelligence and reason on the Internet.
Internet Depth by Preposition: In. No real involvement with the outside world, no chance for transcendence or other greatness. Gorilla199's works aren't all that inspired.
